Rangers International FC and Rivers United will play against Zesco United of Zambia and Rayon Sports of Rwanda respectively in the play-offs of the CAF Confederation Cup following Tuesday’s draw in Cairo.
Both Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs were knocked out of the CAF Champions League in the First Round.
The Flying Antelopes were defeated 5-3 on aggregate by Zamalek SC of Egypt, and Rivers United received their stick from Al-Merrikh of Sudan after getting beat 4-3 on aggregate.
Zesco United progressed to the playoff phase of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 5-3 aggregate win over Burundian side Le Messager, while Rivers United’s opponents Rayon Sports won on walkover because their first round opponents, Onze Créateurs could not continue to participate in international competitions because the Malian Football Federation were suspended by FIFA on March 17, 2017. Another Malian club, Djoliba were affected allowing Al-Masry of Egypt also pull through automatically.
The first leg matches of the play-offs will take place on the weekend of 7-9 April and the return leg on the weekend of 14-16 April.
The winners of the ties will progress to the group stage.
