The match started slowly and gradually wore on. Both teams were boosted by returns of players who were sidelined by injury. Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Moses Ebiye featured for the hosts while captain victor Mbaoma made a return for Remo.
The match actually came to live in the fourth minute, when Christian Pyagbara’s header narrowly missed the target. There were also misses from the host side as they kept on searching.
Brilliancies of Captain Victor Mbaoma and Oche Salifu helped Remo Stars as they searched for a foothold to no avail, thanks to the Akwa United defenders who seemed up to the task.
The visitors got more cautious as the second half kicked off and decided to defend for a solitary away point but were left heartbroken when substitute, Newman Musa scored in the 84th minute and Akwa United held on for the win.
This is just Akwa United FC first win this season and also the first time Remo Stars have scored in a game. Akwa United sit 19th on the log.
