Rivers United are scheduled to play friendly games against Spanish La Liga clubs, Malaga and Villarreal during a training tour of Spain ahead the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

“We will play Malaga and Villarreal,” said Eguma shortly after the Nigeria league runners-up landed in Madrid, as reported by African Football.

Rivers United team and officials flew out of the country on Monday night and going to be training in Spain for 10 days ahead the start of the new season in January.

The Pride of Rivers became champions of the 2016 NPFL Super 4 tournament played in Enugu after accruing the most points, six, with wins against FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Wikki Tourists. But they lost 2-0 to league champions Rangers International on opening day.

The Port Harcourt-based club finished runners-up in the league last season and are to represent the country in next season’s CAF Champions League alongside Rangers.

Rivers United will visit El-Kanemi Warriors on matchday 1 of the NPFL in January..
