Super Eagles latest invitee Henry Onyekuru has been voted the second best African player in Europe behind Borussia Dortmund Gabonese forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

In a poll conducted by France Radio, the forward who could join English Premier League giants West Ham United finished in second position, six points behind Aubameyang who finished with 32 votes.

Onyekuru failed to make the matchday squad in Nigeria’s 0-2 loss to South Africa despite making his debut against Togo in a friendly game played in Paris few days to the game.

The scorer of 24 goals for modest Belgium side Eupen will in the coming days sealed a move away from the modest Belgium side with a fee slightly above £7m placed on him as transfer fee.

He finished ahead of the likes of FC Basle Seydou Doumbia, Antalyaspor Samuel Eto’o and Lazio’s Diao Balde Keita in the poll where he was the only Nigerian in the top 20.

Sunderland youngster Joel Asoro has confirmed that Arsenal have been in contact over a possible move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 18-year-old striker has played only one Premier League match since joining in 2015, but since Sunderland’s relegation from Premier League last season, Arsenal have been linked with a bid for Asoro.

“People were a little shocked because I have played very little first-team football,” he told reporters.

“I’ve heard a little bit, but if I think about it too much, it becomes ‘what if, what if.’ I try not to think about it too much.

“It came as a shock. It is clear clubs contact each other and stuff, but it’s my agent in charge of it. I try to focus on my football.”

Asoro is currently on international duty with Sweden at the Under-21 European Championships, but was born in Sweden to Nigerian parents and has caps for Sweden U17 and U21 squads.

The youngster  can still represent the Super Eagles since he has not played competitively for the senior team of Sweden.

FIFA match agent Ebi Egbe says Nigeria lost to South Africa in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Uyo on Saturday because of the bad playing pitch.

Egbe owns Monimichelle, a stadium construction firm, believes that the Nigeria Professional Football league (NPFL) players would have played better against South Africa because they are used to playing on such pitches unlike the foreign-based players.

He said, “I saw the problem the Eagles faced in Uyo coming. The interviews I granted the media before the game can attest to that.

“The way the players express themselves in Europe is not the same way they would when they come home because of the undulated pitches we have here in Nigeria.

“The Uyo stadium pitch may be the best in the country today, but it is not anywhere near the zero undulated pitches our players are used to in Europe. We can clearly see that the players found it difficult to adjust after one or two days of training on the undulated pitch, for us, to get the best out of our players, we must invest in good pitches.”

The Manager, Rangers International FC of Enugu, Amaobi Ezeaku, has advised the clubs’ supporters to always control their emotions during matches to avoid sanctions by the League Management Company (LMC).

He made the statement while speaking on Monday in Enugu. Ezeaku advised the supporters to stay away from whatever could dent their record as one of the most well behaved supporters club in the Nigeria professional football league.

“Although, all are passionate for the victory of Rangers but then there is a way they can do it and that is by singing and clapping for the players during matches.

“The LMC frowns at encroachment on the pitch and the technical crew arena during matches until players and officials have entered the resting room.

Ezeaku urged them to always come out en-mass to support the club as always anytime they face an opponent but they should always be cool and calm always.

Genrot Rohr, Super Eagles Head coach, has allayed fears of Nigerians over the possibility of the team failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup following a disappointing 0-2 loss to South Africa last Saturday in Uyo.

Nigeria, who top their World Cup group B with six points will play Cameroon with two points in August in a must win World Cup qualifier with Cameroon needing to win the two legged qualifier against Nigeria to boost their qualification chances. Confidence of Nigerians in their team is beginning to wane following the loss to South Africa. But Rohr has come out to assure Nigerians that the team not be lackadaisical against Cameroon the way they played South Africa.“I think the next game with Cameroon will be very interesting. It will be better, much, much better.

“We had difficulties in finishing the match (South Africa) because we made so many efforts in the first half while some of our players were tired in the second half.
“We tried to open the wings and bring power to the team but unfortunately it did not yield fruits.

But against Cameroon we are sure about a win and bagging the whole three point.

Crystal Palace are ready to battle with London rivals West Ham United for the signature of highly-rated Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who is no longer an option at Manchester City.

The striker has a price tag of £20m and West Ham has failed to pressure him to sign for them, which has led Palace to become involved. The 20-year-old striker is keen to stay at the Etihad and fight for a place in the team, but it looks like manager Pep Guardiola will sell him should a reasonable transfer offer be made for him.

Palace are huge admirers of the young striker and is ready to bring the player to Selhurst Park before they announce their new manager.

Iheanacho only started six games last season under Guardiola but came on as a substitute 20 times.

The Nigerian will be looking for regular first-team football should he move and Palace are ready to offer him the assurance. The forward may form a formidable partnership with Belgian striker Christian Benteke and with both at their disposal; the new manager may consider a formation change to accommodate them both.

The Management of Shooting Stars Sports Club has given a three match ultimatum to the technical crew of the club headed by Fatai Amoo to get positive results.

Amoo who is the head coach of the team was appointed 10 months ago. 3SC are currently languishing in the bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League table after losing four of their last five games in the top division.

According to Completesportsnigeria.com, the stern warning was issued in a statement signed by Executive Chairman of the Club, Mr. Gbolagade Busari, which was made available to Completesportsnigeria.com on Monday after an emergency meeting held at the club house to evaluate the poor form of the club.

“The team has a crop of young and promising players that could excel in the Nigerian League and it is the duty of the technical crew to mould them into a successful side,” Busari said in the statement.

“The management will not hesitate to wield the big axe if the results don’t change and we will be meeting as regards the team’s preparation on a weekly basis.” Busari added that the management will not tolerate any excuse on the part of the technical crew, urging that adequate measures should be put in place to ensure that the team survive the relegation battles.

Also reacting to the slump of 3SC was the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Yomi Oke, who promised that the government will intensify efforts in supporting the team in its bid to bring back the glory of Shooting Stars, adding that the teeming supporters, who are not happy with the team, will soon have smiles on their faces.

Super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi could return to Itay after just a season with Trabzonspor in Turkey following interest in his services from Serie A side Fiorentina.

Onazi moved from Serie A side Lazio for Trabzonspor last summer for a fee in the amount of 3.5 million euros, and played 38 games in the Turkish Super Liga with two goals to his name from his role as a defensive midfielder.

According to owngoalnigeria.com “talks have commenced between the Turkish side and the Italian ‎side who have been told the hard tackling midfielder will cost them €5m, a fee which they are eager to meet as they believe he will help them fill the void expected to be created with Milan Badelj set to leave this summer.”

Onazi’s representative Stephen Makinwa was silent when contacted over the rumours as he failed to pick his line when we reached out to him, and didn’t return the messages sent via social media application WhatsApp.
