The first leg of semi-finals of the Aiteo Cup took centre stage on Saturday both in the men and women’s categories.
Like we’ve seen all through the competition this year, it wasn’t short of goals at all, as 11 goals were scored across 3 games from the two categories.
It was goal galore at the Confluence Stadium Lokoja as Niger Tornadoes secured a 4-2 comeback win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The Ikon Allah boys were down 2-0 after goals from Patrick Ikeokwu and King Osanga had put the Anambra warriors in front but that wasn’t going to be the end of the game, as goals from Ibrahim Babawo, Peter Momoh and a brace from Sani Mohammed turned the game on its head and gave them an unexpected win against the holders.
The second leg is set to holdnext Wednesday in Nnewi.
In another clash of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) teams at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-ode, Sunshine Stars edged favourites, Akwa United 1-0 in a very tight contest.
Ajibola Otegbeye was the hero yet again, as his effort in the 38th minute proved to be the winner for the Akure gunners over the Promise Keepers who had their WAFU stars back for this game but still didn’t prevent them from suffering a defeat.
In the women category, Bayelsa United and Rivers Angels played out an entertaining 2-2 in Nembe. The other semi-final couldn’t hold as we await the decision of the Organizing Committee on Tuesday.
The second leg of all the games will hold on next week Wednesday.
