Lagos based Spartan FC have gained promotion to the Nigeria National League, Nigeria’s second tier after beating Almar FC of Ogun state 3-1 on penalties after a thrilling 1-1 draw after regulation time.
The game, which was played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin saw Almar FC go in front in the 63rd minute through Femi Ogunrinade’s strike only for them to be pegged back by the Lagosians in the 93rd minute through Dolapo’s header.
Elsewhere, Rivers United’s conquerors in the Aiteo Cup, J. Atete FC have also secured promotion after beating Bussdor United FC 1-0 at the Uyo township stadium, Uyo on Sunday.
