Nigeria Sand Eagles and former Enyimba FC attacker Abu Azeez was beaten to the best goal of the tournament award in the just concluded 2017 edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup that was held in Bahrain.

The eventual winner was a goal scored by Iranian goalkeeper Peyman Hosseini, which was also the first goal of the tournament in a 3-2 victory for Iran over their Mexican counterparts. The award was announced by FIFA on its website on Tuesday.

It was voted ahead of nine other contestants among which was Abu Azeez’s winner in a 5-4 scoreline also against Mexico.

Nigeria crashed out of the group stage after losing on penalties to in a hard-fought match against Iran, while the other African representatives, Senegal were bundled out 5-1 by Italy in the quarterfinals.

Brazil made light work of Tahiti to win the tournament, routing them 6-0 in the final game of the tournament.
