MFM FC 2-1 Rivers United
MFM FC moved to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Rivers United at the Soccer Temple in Agege, Lagos on Wednesday.
Striker Stephen Odey made it four goals in two games after burying two spot kicks. The first coming in the 28th minute after striking partner Sikiru Olatunbosun was fouled in the 18-yard box.
Rivers United equalised through Christian Weli to get back in the game four minutes later, with the assist coming from Bernard Ovoke.
Just at the stroke of half-time, Odey scored again from the penalty spot for his 12th goal of the season.
The Olukoya Boys now occupy the number 1 spot on top of the league table with 27 points, while Rivers United still remain 18th on the log with 14 points from 11 games played.
Shooting Stars SC 1-0 Rangers Int’l FC
In the other game that took place in Ibadan, Shooting Stars SC (3SC) left it late in the game to get the winner that shot the Oluyole Warriors out of the relegation zone against Rangers Int’l FC.
The Flying Antelopes would have secured the three points in the 88th minute after been awarded a penalty, but Godwin Aguda missed the spot kick.
Bode Daniel scored for the homers in the 94th minute and 3SC ran out winners just for the third time this season.
The Ibadan boys are now placed 13th on the log with 16 points, while Rangers have same number of points – 12 – as basement club, Remo Stars, but with better goal difference.
