Former Sunshine Stars forward, Dayo Ojo believes that his Sudanese team Al-Merrikh SC can win the first leg first round game of the 2017 CAF Champions League against Rivers United in Nigeria.

The Red Devils will be visitors at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday before the second leg game to be played in Sudan one week after the first in a bid to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.

Ojo, who made the move from the Akure Gunners to Al-Merrikh in 2016, said that he has respect for Rivers United but looking forward to his Sudanese side making “a big statement” in this season’s competition.

“I have deep respect for Rivers United but they are beatable and that is our target,” he said.

“They have a lot of quality players in their team especially in attack but we also have good defenders and stopping them will not be a problem for us. We want to make a big statement in the CAF Champions League this season and it’s important that we win a game like this one to make a firm statement and prove ourselves to our rivals.”

Al-Merreikh beat Equatorial Guinean side, Sony Ela Nguema, 5-1 on aggregate in the previous stage while Rivers United edged out AS Real Bamako of Mali 4-0..
