Champion of Champions and NPFL Galacticos will this Sunday play host to one of Nigeria’s continental flagbearers in the CAF Inter club competition and current League Champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu at the FC IfeanyiUbah International Stadium Nnewi. It is certainly going to be an explosive clash bearing in mind the rivalry between these two Nigerian Club Football Gladiators, And in conformity with the popular cliche “The grasses will suffer the ordeal” of this mouthwatering encounter.

Both sides have had indifferent starts to the season and as a result are at the wrong end of the league log. FC Ifeanyi Ubah will certainly approach this game with a sense of urgency to prove a point having played the last 3 games without a win.

The two sides must have benefitted from some extra days of rest and preparations after the League Management Company expunged midweek dates which have no doubt taken a toll on both sides.

This encounter will give new signing in the form of last season’s NPFL Top Scorer Godwin Obaje his debut after inking a deal with the Anambra Warriors from Wikki Tourists last Friday as he will be unveiled to the fans and also perform the act of playing for the Galacticos.

“Derbies are very special moments in the structure of football.  It’s that moment were respect and records are often thrown out of the window. The game is always intense filled with poise,  energy and massive levels of mental alertness. Talk about special derbies like the Merseyside in England between Liverpool and Everton, also in South Africa between Orlando Pirates and Kaiser Chiefs, then also in Ghana talking about the rivalry between Asante Kotoko and Heart of Oaks, this one between FC IfeanyiUbah V Rangers will also live up to the billings.  We have prepared for this game and we look forward to the occasion and come Sunday we will put smiles on the faces of our supporters and followers,” Coach Yaw Preko told his club’s website
Rangers have beaten FC Ifeanyi Ubah only once in their last six meetings with this week’s hosts winning thrice in regulation time and the last victory came via penalties. The last two times have ended in a draw in regulation time but both teams have struggled to hit the form they enjoyed last season.
