Cristiano Ronaldo was yesterday named the The Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2016.


Ronaldo led the final results with 34.54 per cent of the vote, Messi claiming 26.42 per cent and Griezmann 7.53 per cent.

As the coach of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr was entitled to pick three players for the FIFA award.

The Germany born tactician picked compatriot Manuel Neuer in third position, Lionel Messi for second position and picked Griezmann, the Frenchman as his first choice.

Ronaldo, after leading his country to Euro 2016 glory had the backing of Nigeria’s skipper Mikel Obi who submitted the Real Madrid forward as his first choice, followed by French Forward Griezmann and German goalie Neuer.
