Godwin Zaki and Seun Olulayo scored in both halves respectively as Abia Warriors saw of visiting Katsina United at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday.

In an NPFL 2016/2017 Matchday 2 encounter that took place in the Abia State capital, Abia Warriors, still basking in the euphoria of a 2-2-1 away victory over champions, Rangers International, continued their impressive start to the new season after dismissing the Bala Nkiyu tutored side 2-0.

The game started relatively well for the away side as they won 2 early freekicks but couldn’t make any count until the Ochendo boys grew into the game as it wore on. Zaki, Sherrif and Asiegbu proved to be a thorn in the flesh for the Katsina United defense. Zaki finally got the opener few minutes to the break with a tap in from Sherrif’s assist.

Abia Warriors started the 2nd half from where they stopped, increasing the headache for the Katsina United defense led by their captain, Nasiru. Seun Olulayo took over the tormenting role of Asiegbu in the second half and ultimately latched onto a Samson Obi pass to score his first and Abia Warriors 2nd. Katsina United held their ground and searched for a way back into the game, all to no avail.

Katsina United coach, Bala Nkiyu praised his boys for their brave display but rue their few missed chances and believes that they will bounce back to winning ways soon. Katsina United will play Nasarawa United next while Abia Warriors will visit Remo Stars who are still searching for their first points of this season.
