Abia Warriors forward, Godwin Zaki has reiterated that his good scoring form this season, which has seen him score in all but one game, is fueling him with confidence in an exclusive interview with Football Naija.

Zaki scored the winner at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu against Rangers International FC, his first goal of the season and also added another at home in his first home game.

The ex-Lobi Stars striker who has had stincts in Malta, Cyprus and Finland is happy with how his season has started. He dispelled any form of pressure on him and his teammates as the high standards they have set for themselves this season is only as a result of teamwork.

“As a striker, you only have more confidence in front of goal. I am not going to be tensed because I have played abroad a few times, the responsibility of scoring lies more on the striker and with my experience, more goals help strikers be more composed and play with less pressure,” Zaki told Football Naija.

“Of course, I have a target for myself. 15 goals is difficult in the NPFL but I think I can reach that, the team’s success is paramount, anyways,” he added.

Zaki added that he wants to add as many as possible as the team targets a continental finish this season, because it will help him regain enough confidence to attract bigger offers.

Abia Warriors will have their hands full on Wednesday as they host next door neighbors, Enyimba FC and Zaki will hope to add more to his tally. Enyimba FC’s Ibrahim Mustapha who only joined the Aba based side temporarily sojourning in Calabar have also scored as many goals as Godwin Zaki.
