Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala clinched the Golden Boot award for the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon after scoring six goals in the just concluded competition.

Oshoala was presented the award after Nigeria defeated Cameroon 1-0 to win a record eighth AWCON title on Saturday. Desire Oparanozie’s strike in the 84th minute of the encounter secured the victory for the Falcons.

Oshoala, 22, scored four goals in Nigeria’s opening game against Mali, which ended in a 6-0 rout.

The Arsenal Ladies forward scored a goal in the 1-1 draw against Ghana, and registered in the Falcons’ 4-0 win over Kenya in the last group game.


Oshoala becomes the fourth Nigerian after Mercy Akide,Perpetua Nkwocha and Desire Oparanozie to finish as the top goalscorer in the AWCON.

The Arsenal Ladies star also won the Golden Boot as a Falconets player in the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
