The head coach of the Cameroon national team, Hugo Broos, has sent emissaries over to England to persuade retired international Joel Matip to reconsider his retirement from national football ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The 25-year-old defender quit his national team in 2015 amidst controversies but Broos wants the Liverpool player to change his mind and come strengthen the Cameroonian defense so as to have a better chance at qualifying for the world Cup to be played in Russia.

The Indomitable Lions will visit Nigeria to take on the Super Eagles on August 28 next year in their third game of the qualifiers.

Nigeria occupy the top spot with maximum six points from two games played, while Cameroon are second with two points..
