Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins has been shortlisted for the Etihad Airways Player for the month of September in the Major League Soccer.

Martins, who had been in a goal-scoring form for MLS side, Seattle Sounders, was named amongst other top contenders for the coveted award.

During the period under review of the month of September, he scored four goals and added an assist as Sounders surge up to the top of the Western Conference standing.

Obagoal, as he is fondly called, has not won the award since September 2014 faces a stiff competition against Didier Drogba (Montreal Impact), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution), Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew SC) and Sebastian Govinco (Toronto FC).
