Tanzania head coach Charles Mkwasa is confident that the Taifa Stars will earn their first win against Nigeria after 35 years when both teams battle in Dar es Salaam in a 2017 AFCON qualifier.

Mkwasa, who was a member of the team when they lost to then Green Eagles in a 1980 FIFA World Cup qualifier, says that his team are ready to avenge the defeat now as a coach against Nigeria.

“We don’t know anything about the current Eagles team for the game but we know they are a good side. But in football anything can happen,” Mkwasa said on Friday.

“We are ready for them and we want to start right and we could trouble Nigeria as well with our strikers.

“They are not the impressive force they used to be and this is a source of hope.”

Tanzania have failed to win in five games. Coach Mkwasa will be hoping to start his reign on a promising note having been appointed as coach of the team recently..
