Liverpool’s Jordan Ibe has stated the reasons why he chose playing for England over Nigeria and that he feels his decision was the right choice to have committed his future with the Three Lions.

The 19-year old was recently approached by Nigeria football officials including Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh over a switch of allegiances.

“It was my choice and it feels the right choice for me,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“I was born here and have played in the younger age groups. I want to take it up to the first team one day.

“[Playing for the Under-21s] was great and I enjoyed myself. I felt as though [Liverpool team-mate] Joe Gomez and I did well. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to the coming games.

“You want to represent your country well. Even at times when you have not got games for Liverpool, doing well with England is vital.”

However, coach Oliseh had given up on Ibe, revealing via a tweet that the Liverpool winger is bent on playing for England rather than wearing the green and white jersey.

“Jordon Ibe’s Family Informed me by a Telephone call, that He was giving priority to an England call up.We wish them well.” Oliseh tweeted.
