According to a report in Turkish newspaper Radyospor, Chelsea blocked John Obi Mikel’s move to Besiktas after the Premier League champions failed to agree a deal for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

Mikel has found little or no playing time under coach Jose Mourinho this season preferring Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in the midfield role after four round of Premier League matches.

The Super Eagles midfielder was repeatedly linked away from Stamford Bridge with Besiktas and Serie A clubs Inter Milan and SSC Napoli interested in his services.

However, it was reported that Mikel was keen to make the move to Besiktas, but the move was blocked after Chelsea failed to sign Pogba, who was open to a move to the Premier League.

Juventus were not ready to lose Pogba after seeing the likes of Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal leave the club. Chelsea were left with no choice but to keep hold of Mikel.
