The Dream Team VI defeated hosts Congo 5-3 on penalties after a goalless encounter to claim bronze medal at the men’s football event of the ongoing 11th All Africa Games.

Both teams were unable to find the breakthrough in a closely contested match which lived up to expectation, as they failed to convert numerous chances in the game.

The Congolese had the best chance midway into the first half when Mavis Tchibota-Dufounou saw his goal-bound effort missed before Junior Ajayi shot wide after been teed up by Mustapha Abdullahi.

In the second half Congo almost took the lead in the 75th when substitute Silvere Ganvoula headed wide from a free-kick. But Nigeria will go on to claim bronze after the game was forced into penalties.

Goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel saved the spot-kick of Congolese skipper Sagesse Bebele as coach Samson Siasia team claimed victory without missing a spot-kick; Etor Daniel, Sodiq Atanda, Kingsley Sokari, Erhun Obanor and Christian Pyagbara all scored from the penalty spot.
