The rescheduled week 5 fixtures of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) took place over the weekend, with Nasarawa Amazons claiming the only away win.

The Walk-Overs

There were three walk-over ruled, as Taraba Queens failed to honour their match against Sunshine Queens, thus giving the Akure-based club the maximum three points with three goals.

Abuja-based club side, Capital City Doves earned their first maximum points of the season, walking over Pelican Stars of Calabar, whilst Delta Queens also walked-over Adamawa Queens.

Ibom Angels Beat Confluence Queens

Confluence Queens failed to lived up to expectations, having dumped out the defending Women’s Federation Cup champions Rivers Angels from this year’s competition during the week, losing 2-0 Ibom Angels.

Confluence Queens made no changes to their squad, following the win over River Angels, but they failed to replicate the form against the Ibom Angels.

In a keenly contested match, both teams had their fair share of chances. Confluence goalkeeper, Ruth Sunday was forced to make a save from close range in the 7th minute.

Mariam Aluko coming close to scoring the opener for Confluence, capitalising on a defensive error, but Ibom Angels were resolute in clearing off the danger.

Confluence began mounting pressure on their hosts, but could not find the back of the net and were left wondering when Ibom Angels took a surprise lead.

In the 26th minute, a costly error by goalkeeper Ruth Sunday gifted the hosts, with Esem Essien finding the back of the net for the opener.

Moments later, Lola Philips almost got the equalizer for Confluence but her effort was not good enough. Ibom Angels held on to their lead going into the half time break.

In the second half, Confluence came on, searching for an equaliser. Mariam Aluko could have levelled up for the visitors, but she wasted another scoring opportunity.

Celine Ottah finally put the game beyond Confluence’s reach, scoring from a freekick awarded to Ibom Angels close to Confluence 18-yard box.
