Following the surprise omission of Watford’s striker Odion Ighalo from the Super Eagles’ squad to take on Tanzania in next month’s AFCON 2017 qualifier, coach Sunday Oliseh has played down disaffection that followed his foreign players invitees squad.

Coach Oliseh on Monday, August 17 invited 18 foreign players to camp in preparation for the second Group F AFCON 2017 qualifier and surprisingly, in-form Ighalo was left out of the squad.

However, coach Oliseh insisted that he wants to try out new players and that it is impossible to invite every player.

“We can only play 11 players at once. We have two other strikers we want to try out,” the former Super Eagles captain pushed back when asked about the situation.

Odion Ighalo has been in fine form with Watford, having scored a stunning goal in the 2-2 draw with Everton in the Barclays Premier League opener.

Ighalo was also on target for Nigeria in her first Group F AFCON 2017 qualifier victory in June, a 2-0 win over Chad, converting from the penalty spot.
