The semi finals of the Women’s Federation Cup 2015 took center stage on Wednesday, August 19 across two match venues as Confluence Queens traded tackles with Bayelsa Queens at the Oleh Township Stadium in Delta State, while Nasarawa Amazons faced Sunshine Queens.
Confluence Queens and Bayelsa Queens defied the heavy rain pour and went out onto the field to battle it out for a place in the final.
In the opening minutes of the contest, both teams battled for the control of the game, showing flashes but failed to convert their chances.
Minutes later, Bayelsa almost broke through for the opening goal, with Adeboyejo Yetunde curling a freekick but her effort went off target.
Confluence’s Chioma Wogu almost capitalised on a defensive error by the defence-line of Bayelsa, but Wogu was just too in a hurry to score, so she missed the opportunity.
Confluence began with the pressure on Bayelsea, with Aluko Mariam, Aisha Bello, Chioma Wogu and Lola Philips combining well on various occassions to breaking the defence-line of Bayelsa, but failed to, as it ended goalless in the first half.
In the second half, Confluence’s Aishat Bello was booked for a foul on Adeboyejo Yetunde. Minutes later, substitute Joy Bokiri thought she had broken the dead-lock for Bayelsa but her effort was ruled for an offside.
Confluence’s goalkeeper Ruth Sunday was forced to make fine save, denying Adeboyejo Yetunde from a freekick effort.
But Joy Boriki was not going to be denied in the dying minutes of the contest, as she found her way past goalkeeper Ruth Sunday for decisive goal in the 89th minute, leaving Confluence to rue their missed chances.
In Enugu, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi was the hero of the day, saving 3 penalties as Sunshine Queens swept to victory over a resolute Nasarawa Amazons, 3-2 following a goalless encounter after regulation time.
Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens will now battle it out for the crown on August 30 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. Co-incidentally, both teams are yet to concede a goal in the competition.
